Christchurch, Lower Broadheath

History

A foundation stone was laid in November 1903 and the finished church was consecrated on Michaelmas Day in September 1904 - all for £3000! Since the first public meeting to consider whether a new church should be built took place on Jan 27th 1903, the founders are to be admired for their determination and efficiency!

Christ Church replaced an earlier Chapel, on the site of the school, which was consecrated in November 1836.

Lower Broadheath became a new parish, separate from Hallow, in 1922.

In 1954, to celebrate the church's first 50 years, the Churchwarden Mr J Griffiths produced a booklet detailing its history and assets. This was reprinted for the centenary and is reproduced below.

For the centenary in 2004 Don Wilson produced a companion booklet, bringing the story up to date....
